An adapter or interconnect that features a socket (female) on one end and pins (male) on the other. These are used to extend cables, cross incompatible connector genders, or convert a panel-mount receptacle into a pluggable interface. In prototyping, jumper wires of this type are heavily used to connect breadboards to header pins on microcontrollers.
Heard on the job
Grab a female-to-male jumper wire so we can connect the sensor board directly to the Arduino's GPIO pins.
