An equalizer filters an audio signal to boost or cut specific frequency ranges, such as bass, midrange, or treble. Hardware versions use banks of band-pass filters controlled by sliders or knobs to shape the frequency response. Engineers rely on them to correct room acoustics, suppress feedback, or creatively alter the tonal balance of a mix.
