To gradually reduce the amplitude of an audio or video signal to zero.

To decrease the gain of a signal over a set period of time until it reaches the noise floor or absolute silence. In audio and broadcast circuits, this is achieved using voltage-controlled amplifiers, digital multipliers, or motorized faders. It prevents abrupt clicks and pops that occur when a signal is suddenly cut off.
