A circuit breaker monitors the current flowing through a branch circuit and automatically breaks the connection if it detects an overload or a short circuit. Inside, a bimetallic strip bends under sustained excess heat to trip the mechanism, while an electromagnet provides instant tripping for sudden, massive faults. Once tripped, it can simply be flipped back to the on position, unlike a one-time fuse.
Go down to the main panel and see if the circuit breaker for the air compressor tripped again.
