Staff is a historic building material composed of plaster of Paris mixed with glycerin, dextrin, and reinforcing fibers like hemp or burlap. It was heavily used to create elaborate, temporary architectural facades for world fairs and exhibitions because it could be easily cast into intricate shapes and painted to mimic stone.
