Sheet rock

nounStandard termBuilding

A rigid panel of compressed gypsum wrapped in thick paper used to form interior walls and ceilings.

This building material consists of a gypsum plaster core sandwiched between two layers of heavy paper. Installers screw the panels directly to wood or metal framing to create interior wall and ceiling surfaces. Once hung, the joints are taped and covered with joint compound to create a flat, continuous finish before painting.
