Heartbond

nounStandard termBuilding

A masonry bond where two headers meet in the center of a thick wall and are covered by a third overlapping header.

A traditional method of tying a thick stone or brick wall together through its core. It involves placing two header stones opposite each other so they meet in the middle, then laying another header directly over that central joint in the next course. This interlocking pattern prevents the two outer faces of the wall from separating under load.

Heard on the job

Make sure you lay a solid heartbond every few courses so the wall doesn't split down the middle.
