Run-up

nounStandard termAviation

A pre-flight testing sequence performed to verify engine and system health before takeoff.

A run-up is a mandatory sequence of engine and systems checks performed by pilots just before taking the active runway. The aircraft is held stationary with brakes applied while the engine is advanced to a specified power setting. During this time, the pilot verifies magneto drop, oil pressure, vacuum suction, and propeller pitch control to ensure the powerplant can safely deliver takeoff thrust.
