The International Sun-Earth Explorer program consisted of three cooperative satellites launched to investigate the interaction between the solar wind and the magnetic field of the Earth. The third spacecraft in the series was later repurposed and redirected to fly through the tail of a comet, making it the first mission to achieve such a flyby.
