The Fairey-Youngman flap is an older, complex trailing-edge lift device. Unlike simple hinged flaps, it is mounted on links that allow it to deploy downwards and backwards to increase wing area, and then pivot to increase camber. This dual-action mechanism provides high lift at low speeds for shorter takeoffs and landings.
The restoration team had a hard time rebuilding the linkage for the Fairey-Youngman flap on the Firefly.
