Current Engine Option is a designation used by Airbus to identify original engine configurations.

Current Engine Option (CEO) is a retronym applied to the original Airbus A320 family aircraft to distinguish them from the newer New Engine Option (NEO) variants. It refers to aircraft fitted with the original CFM56 or IAE V2500 turbofan engines. The designation helps airlines, lessors, and maintenance crews track fleet variants, as the older engines have different maintenance schedules, fuel burn profiles, and part numbers compared to the newer geared turbofans.

Heard on the job

We're phasing out the last of the A320ceos next year to make room for the NEOs.

Insider tip

You will almost never hear this used for anything outside the Airbus A320 family.
