LATCH

abbreviationStandard termAutomotive

Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children is a standardized hardware system for securing child safety seats.

The LATCH system bypasses the vehicle's adult seatbelts by using dedicated metal bars welded directly to the vehicle chassis between the seat cushion and backrest, plus a top tether anchor. Child seats clip directly onto these rigid points. This standard reduces installation errors and provides a more secure, crash-resistant mounting for infant and toddler carriers.

Heard on the job

I can't get my fingers between the cushions to clip onto the LATCH anchors, so I might just use the seatbelt routing instead.
