Fork oil

nounStandard termAutomotive

A specialized hydraulic fluid used in motorcycle front suspension tubes to provide damping.

A highly refined, anti-foaming lubricant and hydraulic fluid designed specifically for telescopic motorcycle forks. It flows through internal valves and orifices to control the compression and rebound rates of the suspension. The fluid is graded by weight, with heavier oils providing stiffer damping characteristics.

Heard on the job

The front end dives way too much under hard braking, so let's drain the tubes and put in a heavier 15-weight fork oil.
