B5

nounStandard termAutomotive

A diesel fuel blend containing 5 percent biodiesel and 95 percent petroleum diesel.

B5 is a common commercial diesel blend made of 5 percent biodiesel and 95 percent standard petroleum diesel. It is widely distributed at retail pumps because it meets the same ASTM specifications as regular diesel and requires absolutely no engine or fuel system modifications. The small percentage of biodiesel restores the lubricity lost during the sulfur refining process.

Heard on the job

The fleet runs on B5 year-round to keep the injector pumps lubricated.
