Membranes cannot follow a sharp 90-degree inside corner without leaving a void or stressing the material. A cove of sealant, mortar, mastic or a preformed cant strip turns the corner into a gentle curve or 45-degree slope, usually about 3/4 inch to 1-1/2 inches across. Coves go at wall-to-slab, curb and parapet corners before membrane work starts.
Run a 3/4 inch cove at every wall-to-deck corner first, then the reinforcing strip, then the field membrane.
