kilokatal

unitStandard termUnits

A metric unit of catalytic activity equal to one thousand katals.

An SI derived unit that measures the catalytic activity of enzymes and other catalysts. One kilokatal represents a reaction rate of 1,000 moles of substrate converted per second. Because the base unit is extremely large for biological systems, this multiple is mostly theoretical and rarely seen in practical laboratory work.

Heard on the job

The industrial reactor's theoretical maximum conversion rate is rated at 2.5 kilokatals under optimal pressure.
