Ticket pocket

nounStandard termTextiles

A small extra pocket positioned just above the right main pocket on a tailored jacket.

This small welt or flap pocket sits on the right side of a suit jacket, blazer, or overcoat, just above the primary hip pocket. Tailors originally added it to hold train tickets or coins for easy access. It adds a traditional, slightly sporty detail to bespoke and high-end ready-to-wear menswear.

Heard on the job

Cut a flap for the ticket pocket and make sure the pattern matches the main panel perfectly.

Insider tip

A ticket pocket makes a jacket look slightly less formal and is traditionally associated with British country tailoring.
