Voice over NR routes voice traffic directly through a 5G standalone core network using the IP Multimedia Subsystem. It eliminates the need for a 5G handset to fall back to a 4G LTE network just to process a phone call. This architecture reduces call setup time and allows the device to maintain ultra-high-speed data connections while the user is talking.
The firmware update enables Voice over NR, so we should see fewer dropped calls during handoffs.
