Neper

unitStandard termTelecom & IT

A logarithmic unit for expressing ratios of physical quantities like voltage or current, based on the natural logarithm.

A dimensionless unit used to measure attenuation, gain, or phase shift in electrical circuits and transmission lines. Unlike the decibel, which uses base-10 logarithms and power ratios, the neper uses the natural logarithm (base e) and root-power quantities like voltage. One neper equals approximately 8.686 decibels. It is primarily used in theoretical calculations involving transmission line equations.
