Precursor

nounStandard termTelecom & IT

An artifact in signal transmission where a portion of a pulse arrives before the main signal energy.

In digital communication systems experiencing dispersion or using certain equalization techniques, a symbol's energy can spread forward in time. This forward spread causes interference with the preceding symbol, creating intersymbol interference. Engineers design specific filters to minimize this effect and maintain clear decision boundaries for the receiver.
