LPR stands for Line Printer Remote, a network protocol originally designed to send print jobs to Unix-based print spoolers. It operates over TCP port 515, transmitting both the file data and control commands that dictate how the document should be formatted. Although newer protocols exist, LPR remains widely supported by network printers and print servers as a highly reliable fallback method for direct IP printing.
Heard on the job
I configured the print server to use LPR with byte counting enabled so it stops dropping the large PDF jobs.
