Cloud

nounStandard termTelecom & IT

A network of remote servers hosted on the internet to store, manage, and process data.

The cloud refers to distributed, off-site data centers that provide computing power, storage, and software as a service over the internet. The term originated from network topology diagrams, where engineers would draw a fluffy cloud shape to represent a complex external network where the internal routing details were irrelevant to the local site.
