Caller

nounStandard termTelecom & IT

The person or device that initiates a telephone call or connection.

The originating endpoint in a communications circuit. In switching systems and signaling protocols, the caller generates the initial setup request, provides the dialed digits, and is typically the party billed for the toll. Network administrators track caller data to trace routing faults, block spam, and manage trunk capacity.

Heard on the job

We're seeing a high volume of dropped connections where the caller hangs up before the first ring cycle completes.
