Callee

nounStandard termTelecom & IT

The receiving party in a telephone call or communications session.

The endpoint or person that receives an incoming connection request. In telephony protocols like SIP or ISDN, the callee is the destination address that the signaling system attempts to ring and connect. Engineers use this term to clearly distinguish the receiving end from the originating end during call routing analysis and billing.

Heard on the job

The trace shows the SIP invite reaching the gateway, but the callee never sends a 200 OK response.
