Hudson

nounStandard termRailroad

A steam locomotive with a 4-6-4 wheel arrangement.

A type of steam locomotive characterized by a four-wheel leading truck, six driving wheels, and a four-wheel trailing truck. Named by the New York Central Railroad, the design allowed for a massive firebox supported by the trailing truck, making it ideal for hauling heavy, high-speed passenger trains.
