A substation facility that supplies electrical power to a railway electrification system.

An electrical installation that draws high-voltage power from the commercial grid, transforms it, and supplies it to a railway overhead catenary or third rail system. These stations are spaced at calculated intervals along the right-of-way to maintain consistent voltage as multiple heavy locomotives draw power in the same sector.
