Doll

nounShop talkRailroad

A short secondary signal post mounted on a main bracket or gantry.

A smaller, secondary vertical post attached to a main signal mast or overhead signal bridge, used to display an additional signal head. It typically governs a diverging route, a siding, or a less important track next to the main line. The height of the post often indicates the relative importance or speed of the route it controls.

Heard on the job

You have a clear indication on the main mast, but watch the doll for the diverging route into the yard.
