Runover

nounStandard termPrinting

Text that exceeds its allotted space and spills into the next column or page.

The portion of a text block that does not fit within the designated layout area and must be carried over to a subsequent column, page, or section. Managing it requires adjusting tracking, rewriting copy, or adding pages to accommodate the extra lines without creating awkward widows or orphans.

Heard on the job

We've three lines of runover on the front page article that need to jump to page four.
