Reglet

nounStandard termPrinting

A thin strip of wood used to create blank space between lines of metal type.

In traditional letterpress, a reglet is a precise strip of hardwood, typically cut to standard point thicknesses like nonpareil or pica. Compositors insert reglets between lines of type or around display elements to add vertical spacing, serving the same function as lead strips but weighing much less in large forms.
