Overprint

verbStandard termPrinting

To print one layer of ink directly on top of another.

The process of printing one ink color directly over a previously printed color rather than knocking out the background. It is used to trap colors, preventing white gaps caused by misregistration, or to create a third color by mixing two transparent inks on the sheet. Black text is almost always overprinted on colored backgrounds.

Heard on the job

Set the black text to overprint so we don't get white halos if the press shifts.
