Blow-off

nounShop talkPowder Coating

Blasts of compressed air used to clear water from pockets or dust from parts before they are coated.

Fixed air knives or a worker with an air gun clear water from seams, tubes and cups after the washer so it does not boil out in the oven. Before the booth, a blow-off removes dust and lint. The air must be filtered and dry, because oil from an unfiltered line causes craters across every part it touches.

Heard on the job

Put somebody on blow-off at the washer exit, the channel parts are holding a cup of water each.
