Dosimeter

nounStandard termNuclear

A device worn by a person to measure the radiation dose they receive.

A personal monitor that records accumulated dose. Workers typically wear a passive dosimeter of record, such as a TLD or OSL badge processed by a lab, together with an electronic dosimeter that shows dose and dose rate in real time and alarms. Dosimeters are worn on the chest, where the highest whole-body dose is expected, with extra extremity rings or multiple badges when parts of the body face higher fields.

Heard on the job

Where's your dosimeter? Clip it on the chest, not your belt, you'll be leaning over the vessel.
