A mine worker responsible for operating and maintaining the haulage system on a sloped underground roadway.

A person stationed on an inclined plane or drift whose job is to manage the movement of mine cars or skips up and down the slope. They control the braking mechanisms, attach and detach haulage ropes, and ensure that loaded and empty cars pass each other safely on the incline.
