A textured or differently colored strip of road shoulder designed to alert drivers they are leaving the travel lane.

A section of the road margin featuring a rough surface, rumble strips, or contrasting pavement. It provides a tactile and auditory vibration to the steering wheel, waking up inattentive drivers or warning them of an impending drop-off or hazard before they leave the roadway entirely.
