Bathy

nounShop talkHydrography

Clipped form of bathymetry, used for depth data, depth surfaces or the depth-measuring part of a job.

Survey-room shorthand for bathymetric data and products. People speak of bathy surfaces, bathy files, the bathy deliverable and bathy versus imagery, where imagery means side-scan or backscatter. On multidisciplinary jobs the bathy crew is the team running the echo sounders, as distinct from those running magnetometers or sub-bottom profilers.

Heard on the job

Send the client the bathy at 1 metre and the backscatter mosaic at 25 centimetres.
