Weight of a geosynthetic per square meter or square yard, the basic identity check for geotextiles.

Specimens are cut to a set size and weighed, and the result is reported in g/m2 or oz/yd2. It tracks cost and roughly tracks thickness and strength, which is why nonwovens are named by weight in the field. It does not guarantee performance, so specs pair it with strength, puncture and hydraulic properties.
