Short for minimum average roll value, it is the product's mean property value minus two standard deviations, so about 97.7 percent of rolls should beat it. Geosynthetic specs and conformance tests are written in MARVs rather than typical values. When a conformance sample comes in below MARV, the roll, and often the lot, is rejected or retested.
Typical value is 300 pounds, but the MARV is 250, and the spec is written on MARV, so we're fine.
Never compare one maker's typical values with another's MARVs; the typical number always looks better.
