It covers geotextiles for subsurface drainage, separation, stabilization, permanent erosion control, temporary silt fence and paving fabric. Strength requirements come in Class 1, 2 and 3, from toughest to lightest, and are split by elongation below or above 50 percent, which roughly separates wovens from nonwovens. Many state and local specs simply cite it with a class and an application.
Spec just says M 288 Class 2 separation, so either the woven or the 8-ounce nonwoven will do.
