Wetdown

nounStandard termFire & Safety

A traditional ceremony where a newly commissioned fire apparatus is sprayed with water.

A fire service ritual used to commission a new piece of apparatus. Crews from neighboring stations or departments use their hoses to spray water over the new truck. Afterward, the firefighters manually dry the rig and physically push it backward into the apparatus bay, a nod to the era of horse-drawn steam engines.
