A genus of trailing, fleshy-leaved plants widely grown as ornamental annuals in hot, dry conditions. They produce brightly colored, cup-shaped flowers that typically open in full sunlight and close at night or on cloudy days. They thrive in poor, sandy soils where other bedding plants struggle.
