No-till

nounStandard termFarming

A farming method that grows crops without disturbing the soil through plowing or cultivation.

An agricultural system where seed is planted directly into the residue of the previous crop without turning the soil. This practice minimizes soil erosion, retains moisture, and builds organic matter by keeping the soil structure intact. Specialized seeders cut a narrow slot for the seed and press it closed in one pass.
