A managed pile of organic waste left to decompose into nutrient-rich soil amendment.

A dedicated pile or bin where plant debris, manure, and other organic materials are gathered to break down aerobically. Growers manage the ratio of carbon to nitrogen, moisture levels, and aeration by turning the pile. The resulting dark, crumbly material is used to improve soil structure and fertility.
