A small, wire enclosure used in high-density commercial egg production to house laying hens.

These wire cages are arranged in long rows and stacked in multiple tiers within a climate-controlled barn. They are designed with sloped floors so eggs roll out onto a collection belt, while manure drops through to a removal system below. This system maximizes the number of birds per square foot and strictly controls feed intake and disease transmission, though it severely restricts the birds' natural behaviors.
