A grid balancing technology that uses excess electrical power, typically from intermittent renewables, to produce a gas fuel. The most common method uses electrolysis to split water into hydrogen. This hydrogen can be injected directly into natural gas pipelines, stored in tanks, or further reacted with carbon dioxide to create synthetic methane.
With curtailment hitting thirty percent this month, the economics for a new power to gas facility are finally penciling out.
