Nickel-manganese-cobalt oxide is one of the most common cathode materials for lithium-ion batteries. It offers a strong balance of high energy density, power capability, and thermal stability. Manufacturers often tweak the ratio of the metals, such as NMC 811 (80 percent nickel, 10 percent manganese, 10 percent cobalt), to reduce reliance on expensive cobalt while boosting capacity.
Heard on the job
Most of our power tools run on NMC packs because they can handle high discharge rates without overheating.

Do not mix it up with
- LFP: NMC provides higher energy density but is more prone to thermal runaway than the highly stable LFP chemistry.
