Paraformer

nounStandard termElectrotechnology

A specialized type of transformer that transfers energy through variations in magnetic reluctance rather than mutual inductance.

A paraformer relies on a nonlinear magnetic core to transfer power from the primary to the secondary winding. Unlike standard transformers that use mutual inductance, the paraformer modulates the reluctance of the magnetic circuit. This design provides exceptional electrical isolation and inherent voltage regulation, making it highly effective at filtering out line noise and voltage spikes.

We installed a paraformer on the power supply to the sensitive lab equipment to block out the grid transients.
