A generator that converts mechanical energy into alternating current.

A synchronous electrical machine that produces alternating current from mechanical rotation. It works by spinning a magnetic field inside a set of stationary stator windings, inducing a voltage. They range from small units in vehicles to massive multi-megawatt machines in power stations.
