VCC stands for Voltage Common Collector. It designates the positive supply voltage rail connected to the collector terminals of bipolar junction transistors in a circuit. While strictly referring to bipolar logic like TTL, engineers routinely use the label for the main positive power rail on any schematic or circuit board, regardless of the underlying transistor technology.
Heard on the job
Probe the VCC pin to make sure the chip is actually getting five volts before we start swapping out parts.
Insider tip
Although VCC technically implies bipolar transistors, engineers widely use it as a generic label for the positive power input on CMOS chips, which strictly should use VDD.
