System pull

nounShop talkElectronics

A component salvaged from a fully assembled but unused computer or electronic system.

A part, such as a CPU, memory module, or drive, that was installed in a new factory machine but removed before the machine was ever sold or used. Vendors sell these parts as essentially new, though they lack retail packaging and might show minor insertion marks on the contacts. It is a common way to source cheaper OEM hardware.

These processors are system pulls from canceled server orders, so they work perfectly but lack the retail box.

Insider tip

System pulls are usually a safe bet for cheap parts, but always check the warranty terms since the manufacturer often considers the warranty void once removed from the original system.
