The Nutt time-interval digitizer combines a coarse digital counter with a fine analog interpolator to achieve sub-nanosecond timing resolution. It counts the whole clock cycles between a start and stop pulse, then uses time-to-amplitude conversion or similar interpolation to measure the fractional clock periods at both ends. This architecture provides both a wide measurement range and extreme precision, making it essential for laser ranging, time-of-flight mass spectrometry, and advanced test equipment.
Heard on the job
We need to swap out the NTIDS module because the time-of-flight measurements are drifting by a few nanoseconds.
